Entering a directory also causes traversal of first subdirectory level

Description

I have a directory within my home directory that consists of 14000 files at various directory levels. When I enter that directory through the file explorer, Swish also visits the next level of subdirectories. That takes a very long time to complete, as most of the 14000 files are at that next directory level, scattered over approximately 60 subdirectories. I know that this traversal is taking place because Ticket #378 manifests at this point.

For example, I have a directory structure like this:

home/me/devel/linux/headers
home/me/devel/linux/source1
home/me/devel/linux/source2
... to source60

When I enter the directory home/me/devel/linux, Swish also visits the headers subdirectory and each of source1-60. The symbolic link causing grief Ticket #378 is in the headers subdirectory, but entering the linux directory causes the problem in Ticket #378 to manifest.
