Error downloading from ProFTPD server

Description

Hi ! Downloading a VOB file, I have difficulties to get the download complete. Either I received "you do not have permission" or "fonction incorrecte" which could be translated by "Incorrect function". If I try to start it again I received the former and have to start over again without any guaranty it will work. I've read ticket on the Key subject but I did not received any help from Xirvik, how to let the STFP server know there's a key, saying my problems were not a Key issue !
Can you help me ?

Hi ! Downloading a VOB file, I have difficulties to get the download complete. Either I received "you do not have permission" or "fonction incorrecte" which could be translated by "Incorrect function".

We need a few more details to diagnose the problem:

  • Does the file download at all or do you get this error before the download starts?
  • Where are you downloading it to?
  • What SSH/SFTP servers are you running on the remote side?
  • What version of Windows are you running locally?

If I try to start it again I received the former and have to start over again without any guaranty it will work.

What do you mean by start it again? You don't have another choice, right? Swish doesn't resume partial downloads.

I've read ticket on the Key subject

Which ticket?

I did not received any help from Xirvik, how to let the STFP server know there's a key, saying my problems were not a Key issue !

From what you've told me so far, I would agree. Once you've logged into your server and can see a window with files in it, authentication (by key, password, etc.) has already been done.

The download starts and I get a 1 hour estimate but after about half, it stops and I get the message.

  • Where are you downloading it to?

I am downloading it to one of my computer's disk.

  • What SSH/SFTP servers are you running on the remote side?

I am not sure I understand the question (so much for my technical skills)but I download the file directly from Xirvik server which Swish is able to see, fortunately. So, I open Swish, see the folders and try to copy one of them (4 GB) to my HDD.

  • What version of Windows are you running locally?

Running Windows 7 PRO.>

If I try to start it again I received the former and have to start over again without any guaranty it will work.

What do you mean by start it again? You don't have another choice, right? Swish doesn't resume partial downloads.

I close Swish and start it over again but it had only worked once for a 470 MO VOB files. I know Swish does not resume and do not keep the partially downloaded file.

I've read ticket on the Key subject>

Which ticket?

#193, the one in which they talked about Pageant key. Gee, I wish I would be able to detail the issue as well as the user did !

I did not received any help from Xirvik, how to let the STFP server know there's a key, saying my problems were not a Key issue !

To their credit, a support has been offered as they wrote back: "Detail what is you are trying to do exactly that can't and we'll try to help, but any investigation related to keys is a waste to time"
Thanks for your help and prompt answer.

Ok, so by this time you are well authenticated and keys shouldn't matter.

  • Where are you downloading it to?

I am downloading it to one of my computer's disk.

Good.

  • What SSH/SFTP servers are you running on the remote side?

I'm assuming Xirvik is a company? Some sort of web host? If so, they are running something called an SSH server on their computers --- the ones you log in to. We need to know what kind of SSH server and (if it's different) also what kind of SFTP server runs on top of that. One way you can find out is to connect using PuTTy and get it to show you the properties of the server. I'm afraid I can't remember what you need to click but it should be reasonably obvious. Anything called "banner" will give us useful information too.

I doubt that your problem is related to #193. That bug occurs when the connection is idle but yours should be busy.

I agree with them. Forget about keys for now.

I've asked Xirvik support what kind of SSH server and (if it's different) also what kind of SFTP server runs on top of that and they answered: ProFTPD !

I asked Xirvik what kind of server they were using and responded with ProFTPD. Is it helpful for diagnosis ? I am adding this comment as no reply has been given despite I had updated ticket. Thanks.

It is helpful, thanks. When I get time I'll set up a ProFTPD server here and attempt to reproduce your issue. However, that won't be before October. Until then, I suggest you use an alternative client to work with that server.

As I do not know exactly what setting up a server implies but a lot of work, I will patiently wait and continue to use CuteFTPPRO. Thanks for the response.

I have not experienced the kind of issues I had. I do not know what lissh2 is but if it was the solution, I appreciate your support. I now connect with Protocol "FTP with TLS/SSL (AUTH TLS-Explicit)", still port 21, instead of Standard File Transfer Protocol. Thanks.

No, we havn't changed anything yet. Did you install a new version?

Swish doesn't support FTP with TLS/SSL so, whatever you're using, it's not Swish.

I am sorry while waiting for support I had used another program to access files. Sorry for the confusion.

Ok, so just to be clear, do you still encounter the problem when using Swish?

Unfortunately, program crashed after less than 10 minutes, with quite 0% downloaded (667 ko). Message was "fonction incorrecte" (improper or incorrect function).

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
